Road trip! (for cinnagene)

[As Kim sees it, Omaha is cold and dark and, for Jimmy, isolating, lonely and depressing. She's not typically one for road trips, but this is one she's been looking forward to. Not only does she get to spend it with Jimmy, she also hopefully gets to see him happy. It's always been what she's wanted for Jimmy. He's been through so much. Even though a lot of it was, admittedly, Jimmy's own fault, she wouldn't wish his situation on anybody, and definitely not him.

They've been driving all day, taking turns behind the wheel of Jimmy's car, and the sun is setting. Kim's at the wheel, looking at the time.]

We should probably find somewhere to stop for dinner.

[She's teasing him, completely deadpan.]

[ His deadpan has an earnest air. ] You had better believe it.

We should have a contest. See who brings home the most beads.

I wouldn't want to embarrass you, Kim, I don't know.

Right. You just know you'll lose.

[She's totally teasing.]

Oh, I will! [ Cue Mouthful of Salad, the educated man's Hakka. (Because I'm not sure how into rugby you are.) ]

[Kim grins and takes a bite of her own salad...then it occurs to her that she's used Jimmy's real last name in public. Her grin fades a little and she takes an uneasy look to the side, at the rest of the restaurant. They're probably totally safe, but there's still a small amount of concern.]

[ He notices her mood shift immediately, but isn't the bright personality of old, so says nothing. It's not like anyone else seemed to have noticed and they wouldn't. Then he realises what she said.

And carries on eating. There's nothing he can do that won't actually draw attention. ]

Wow, that was smart...

[She mutters the words while spearing lettuce and chicken onto her fork.]

[ He shrugs. ] Old habits. It's not like this is any place I'm staying.

[twoyearplan]

Still.

[She sighs. There isn't much they can do about it, so she takes a sip of her drink then turns back to her salad.]

[ It's just… depressing. Anyway, he's reasonably sure that people will more readily shrug off McGill over Goodman.

That… effectively killed the mood, now didn't it. ]

[She eats in silence for a few seconds before trying to start the conversation again.]

They have alligators there. I've heard they dress them up and put them in the parades,although my source might have been unreliable.

[cinnagene]

[ He doesn't answer immediately, thinking if he heard anything about that. ] They're probably stuffed or something. Can't imagine health and safety wouldn't rain on that parade.

I don't know...these are people who tolerate public drunkenness and bury their dead above ground.

[cinnagene]

I'm not sure that makes it more or less likely that a live alligator gets involved.

[twoyearplan]

[Welp. So much for trying to lighten the mood. Kim stabs at her salad.]

They have boat tours. If we'd like to have some nature with our drinking.

[cinnagene]

[ He lets out a quite almost laugh. ] Then we'll get our live alligator.

[twoyearplan]

[She smiles.]

True. And it might be a nice easy thing to do while we recover from the massive hangovers in store for us.

Yeah, we're gonna need a gallon of water or something.

Each. Which, you know, good. Water is something New Orleans has a lot of.

Hey. You can drink all the swamp water you like, I'm sticking to the clean stuff.
